Tolenorm Oil by Dr. JRK's Research and Pharmaceuticals is a proprietary Siddha medicine specifically formulated for the management of vitiligo and hypopigmentary disorders.

Here's a detailed overview:

Key Benefits:

  • Increases Melanin Synthesis: The oil helps stimulate the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color.
  • Restores Skin Color: By increasing melanin and transferring it to the skin, Tolenorm oil aids in the repigmentation of depigmented areas.
  • Augments Tyrosinase Activity: It enhances the activity of tyrosinase, an enzyme crucial in the melanin production process, at both pre- and post-transcriptional levels.
  • Enhances α-MSH Activity: It boosts the activity of Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (α-MSH), which plays a vital role in melanocyte function.
  • Increases Dendrite Formation: Tolenorm oil promotes the growth of dendrites in melanocytes, which are essential for transferring melanosomes (melanin-containing structures) to keratinocytes (skin cells).
  • Facilitates Melanosome Transfer: It aids in the transfer of melanosomes to keratinocytes, leading to the restoration of skin color.
  • Retains Existing Pigmentation: Helps to preserve the already pigmented skin and may slow down the progression of the disease.
  • Quick Absorption and Faster Action: The formulation is designed for rapid absorption into the skin, leading to quicker effects.
  • Sustained Release: Offers a sustained release of the active ingredients for prolonged action.
  • Nourishes and Rejuvenates Skin: In addition to its primary function, it also helps in nourishing and rejuvenating the skin.

Key Ingredients:

Each 5 ml of Tolenorm Oil typically contains extracts of:

  • Wrightia tinctoria (Sweet Indrajao): 50 mg - Known for its skin-healing properties and its role in balancing skin pigmentation.
  • Psoralea corylifolia (Babchi): 50 mg - Stimulates melanin production and helps restore natural skin color.
  • Indigofera tinctoria (Indigo): 50 mg - Enhances melanin transfer to the skin, supporting uniform pigmentation.
  • Piper longum (Long Pepper): 50 mg - May promote melanocyte proliferation and the transfer of melanin pigment to the skin; also acts as a bio-enhancer, improving the absorption of other ingredients.
  • Oleum Cocos nucifera (Coconut Oil): Q.S. (Quantity Sufficient) - Acts as a base oil, moisturizing and protecting the skin while aiding in the penetration of the herbal extracts.

How to Use:

  • Apply Tolenorm Oil on the affected (depigmented) areas thrice a day, or as directed by a physician.
  • Continue usage as advised until satisfactory repigmentation is achieved.
  • Mild sun exposure (for about 5 minutes) is often recommended after application to enhance repigmentation. Allow the oil to absorb for at least 2-3 hours after sun exposure.

Important Considerations:

  • For external use only.
  • Read the product label carefully before use.
  • Store in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • While generally considered safe, it's advisable to perform a patch test before the first use to check for any allergic reactions.
  • Consult a qualified medical practitioner for diagnosis and regular clinical follow-up for vitiligo and hypopigmentary disorders.
  • Results may vary from person to person, and consistent use over a period is usually necessary to see significant improvement.

Tolenorm Oil is a well-researched Siddha medicine with clinical studies suggesting its effectiveness in the management of vitiligo. It works by addressing various aspects of melanin production and transfer, aiming to restore natural skin color in affected individuals.
